Alcohol Awareness Month

April is Alcohol Awareness Month and we want to help bring awareness to the impact that alcohol plays on our health and in our communities. April is also Distracted Driving Awareness Month (which you may have seen in our last blog) – and we know how closely these two topics relate in today’s world. How are you navigating the fact that alcohol is a leading cause of death on our nation’s roadways?

According to Recovered, some recent alcohol addiction statistics include:

  • Over 65 million Americans report binge drinking or heavy drinking in a one-month period.
  • 2018 saw 10,511 alcohol-impaired driving fatalities, representing 29% of annual traffic fatalities.
  • Alcohol use by teens claims 4,700 lives each year, more than all illegal drugs combined.

The National Health Institute (NIH) shares that about 95,000 Americans die from alcohol-related causes annually, roughly 68,000 men and 27,000 women. Numbers that stand out even more when you note that American drinking is on the rise, with increasing rates at 21% during the pandemic.
