Make A Difference Day

The fourth Saturday of every October is annually recognized as Make A Difference Day! It’s a day that brings community service awareness to a new level, as individuals and organizations join forces to make a difference. It’s traditionally known as the largest “national day of community service” since its creation in 1992 by the USA Weekend Magazine and Points of Light and truly encourages us to help others.

This year, it took place on October 22nd. The fall and winter months are the perfect time of year to put an emphasis on volunteering, raising funds, offering support, and learning about the most critical needs of our society. Here are some fun facts to consider:

40% of all volunteers rise to the occasion of giving after being convinced by a friend.
The largest demographic of volunteers falls in the 18–24-year-old category.
The day has contributed 30 million working hours - a value of $635 million in human production!

Happiness.com notes that volunteering is an important way to help individuals and communities in need. In fact, volunteering is beneficial not just for the individual or organization receiving the help, but for those who are giving their time as well! We know volunteering has a plethora of benefits: it connects you with others, builds self-confidence, relates to physical health, boosts mental health, provides a sense of purpose, and can boost your career aspirations. How will you get involved this year?
