National Water Safety & Drowning Prevention Month
Each year, the American Red Cross and the National Recreation and Park Association along with dozens of other water safety groups, band together to promote May as National Water Safety Month. We also want to recognize Drowning Prevention with the National Drowning Prevention Alliance (NDPA).
At I’m Safe, we understand everyone involved in this month’s campaigns have the goal of promoting water safety through educational programs, public services announcements, government proclamations, dealer and business promotions, and easy-to-access water safety materials.
According to the NDPA, drowning is the single leading cause of death of children ages 1 through 4. It can happen in as fast as 30 seconds! We lose 10 school buses of children to drowning each year.
At I’m Safe, we have extensive Water Safety resources for parents and children to help implement the layers of protection to do our part in preventing the tragedy of drowning. Some items include:
- Summer Safety Adventure Activity Book – A bit of everything for summer safety from child passenger safety to safe swimming and drowning prevention, and even playground safety!
- I’m Safe! In the Water Activity Book – A cost effective way to reinforce water safety at home.
- Pre-Teen Water Safety Poster – An eye-catching poster designed for children 9 to 13+ that communicates the importance of using life jackets, swimming with a buddy, and following rules.
- Water Wise Bingo Game – Build kids’ confidence and encourage safety in and around the water.
