Fire Prevention - This Week and All Year Long

The NFPA has compiled some sobering facts about fire.*

For instance:
• Cooking is the leading cause of home fires and injuries, followed by heating equipment.
• On average, seven people die in the U.S. from home fires every day.
• “Failure to clean” is the leading contributor to heating equipment fires (for example, removing creosote from chimneys).
• Only one-third of American have both developed and practiced their home fire escape plan.
• Working smoke alarms cut the risk of dying in a reported home fire in half.

Fire Prevention Week offers a terrific opportunity to focus attention on fire safety, and yet the need for fire safety education continues year round.
